The Boundary Between Reality and Virtuality: Exploring the Authenticity of the On-Chain World

The boundary between reality and the virtual is often blurred. We tend to perceive what is familiar and comfortable as real, while viewing the unfamiliar and distant as false. This judgment often varies from person to person. From a logical perspective, how do we determine that the world we inhabit is not a carefully constructed illusion? How do we verify that what we consider real is not merely an illusion created by our brains? We are so immersed in our familiar surroundings that we often overlook the necessity of deep questioning.

The attention-grabbing reality is the reality that is meaningful to them, and this meaningful reality leads to a transformation of self-perception. When you are fully immersed in a beloved game, guiding characters through a dazzling adventure world, you enter a state of flow, losing the perception of the passage of time. In this state, the characters in the game become a meaningful version of yourself, while the game world becomes a reality of significant importance to you. Your body simply becomes a vessel for maintaining mental activity, detached from that reality, only needing to continue existing.

The phenomenon of subjective displacement allows us to construct new realities. We advocate for "on-chain realism maximalism" because we believe that the inherent decentralization and immutability of blockchain technology provide a solid foundation for building these new realities. The large-scale decentralized applications we are developing serve as vast containers that can support the growing number of participants. The world defined by smart contracts is not merely a carefully curated theme park for temporary entertainment; it can transcend mere entertainment and create an environment where people must take responsibility for their actions and bear the consequences.

What is on-chain radicalism?

From this perspective, many people do not take the large decentralized applications we are building seriously as they should. Many view the on-chain world as a simple supplement to the existing world, as optional or secondary. This casual attitude undermines the inherent credibility of these applications, making it difficult to persuade future on-chain world residents to engage in constructive activities that can bring long-term, stable value.

Developing large-scale applications is a key step towards realizing the "on-chain reality". Games are an important subset of large-scale applications, yet there are many voices around us that resist the concept of games. This resistance reflects a latent anxiety that is not entirely unfounded. The "sub-reality" shaped by traditional Web2 games demonstrates significant appeal. However, at the same time, this "sub-reality" is strongly controlled by centralized entities, and the foundation it is built upon is unreliable, susceptible to collapse at any moment. In contrast, there is no destined destruction for fully on-chain games. Based on this, we can attempt to construct a reality that is more real and imaginative than the physical world we inhabit: a wilder, more romantic, and more beautiful reality.

Our bodies exist on Earth, requiring daily survival, maintaining health, social interaction to ward off loneliness, and selling labor to earn money. These necessities consume a significant amount of our time and energy. We may try to attribute positive meaning to these tasks for self-comfort, but this is often merely a reluctant compromise. We are born onto this chaotic stage of life, seemingly making choices; however, in reality, we are only selecting from a series of unsatisfactory options, guided by luck and intuition, oblivious to the consequences. As technology advances, material resources become more abundant, human lifespan extends, and AI takes over more basic tasks, "on-chain reality maximalism" offers a pathway to address the spiritual crisis facing humanity.

We believe that "on-chain radicalism" is not just a new trend in crypto culture, but an evolution of civilization itself. In this new reality, everyone can become their own master, breaking free from imposed and meaningless choices, and building a future that belongs to themselves and all of humanity. Here, there is no centralized control, no irreversible collapse, only a world that evolves through consensus and action. In the world of on-chain reality, we are no longer passive recipients of external commands but active creators of a future that is freer, more romantic, and filled with hope. This future may be more real than what we once considered "reality."
